The game was created by Professor Nancy Armistead based upon her personal experiences and challenges she encountered as a dyslexic learner.
“Many of the games come from my own experiences. Once in the fourth grade, I was told by my teacher to go and look up a word. I was dead serious when I responded, ‘What does it start with?’” stated Professor Armistead.
Because dyslexics do not correlate the sounds of individual letters to comprise a word, it is difficult for them to “sound out” words as most readers do. The games within the dDragon App focus on improving this ability.
Reinforcing these phonetic concepts throughout the game helps the player master these skills and apply the same principals when reading outside the game environment.
